Fluid Mechanics and Heat Transfer

Aim: The primary objective of the course is to familiarise students with the basic concepts and relationships of fluid mechanics and thermodynamics, which are essential in practice.

Training location

Main topics – subjects . Hydrostatics, pressure changes in a fluid at rest. Folyadékba merített sík és görbült felületre ható erő. Continuity. Euler’s equation of motion. Bernoulli equation. Impulse condition. Navier-Stokes equations. Hydraulic losses in pipes and fittings. Introduction to computational fluid dynamics (CFD). Types of heat transfer: conduction, convection, radiation. One dimensional steady-state heat conduction and convective heat transfer in single or multi-layer plane walls and cylindrical walls and spherical shells. Temperature dependent thermal conductivity (plane wall, cylindrical wall, spherical shell). Energy equation. Fully developed laminar flow: heat transfer in Couette flow and tube flow.

Entry requirements: Engineering BsC or MsC (previously college or university) degree
