Determination of zero strength temperature (NST)

The “Zero Strength Temperature Determination (NST)” test is performed using the Gleeble 3500.

  • Equipment Name and Type: Gleeble 3500
  • Load: 100 kN
  • Purpose: To test specimens over a wide temperature range in ambient and non-ambient media, depending on the material quality and size of the specimen.

This equipment allows the tester to determine the ‘zero strength temperature’, i.e. the temperature at which a material or specimen loses its strength or stiffness. This can be important information in the application, design and manufacture of materials.
